About Betsy's Folly

Betsy's Folly is a large hole in the ground that was dug a few years back by someone named Betsy. The idea was to make a pond, but Betsy never got around to lining the hole, so the water doesn't stay. As a result, the hole is a pond only in the Spring, when the melting snows fill it with fresh water.

For a few months after the snows melt, the pond is full of life- ducks, frogs, salamanders, and other creatures taking advantage of the brief water habitat. Then, by mid-August, the water is gone and the pond is silent again for another year.

The studio, located in a rehabilitated equipment barn next to the pond, is called Betsy's Folly to remind us that one person's "folly" is another's work of art.
